Benbecula Distillery in the Outer Hebrides receives strategic investment for expansion and community development

In a significant boost for Scotland's craft spirits sector, Benbecula Distillery has secured a £1.5 million investment from the British Business Bank's Investment Fund for Scotland, marking the fund's first equity investment in the Highlands and Islands region. This development mirrors the kind of entrepreneurial transformation seen in other British industries, demonstrating Scotland's continuing innovation in traditional sectors.

Strategic Growth and Community Impact

The investment, delivered through Maven Capital Partners, will enable the Outer Hebridean distillery to implement an ambitious growth programme. This includes scaling up production, supporting whisky maturation processes, and creating new employment opportunities on the island. Like other community-focused initiatives across Britain, the project aims to strengthen local economic resilience.

"Securing this investment is a major milestone for us and for the island," says Angus MacMillan, founder of Benbecula Distillery. "It gives us the ability to scale production with confidence, continue creating skilled jobs locally, and develop visitor experiences that bring people closer to our story."

Investment Impact and Future Vision

The funding coincides with the launch of Benbecula's second private cask offering, providing early access opportunities for whisky enthusiasts and investors. This strategic move follows successful models of sustainable Scottish enterprise development, balancing commercial growth with environmental and community considerations.

Corporate Expansion in Professional Services

In related business news, professional services group Cooper Parry has acquired Aberdeen-based accountancy firm Hutcheon Mearns, established in 2015. The merger brings 70 new team members to Cooper Parry, pushing the combined pro forma turnover beyond £250m and strengthening Scotland's professional services sector.
