Oscar-nominated actor Colin Farrell will be honoured with the coveted Golden Icon Award at the 20th Zurich Film Festival (ZFF), marking another milestone in a career that has seen him transform from Hollywood action star to acclaimed character actor, much like other British Isles legends who have left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry.
A Career Spanning Artistic Excellence
The Irish actor, whose versatility has shown through roles in "The Batman", "The Lobster", and the Oscar-nominated "The Banshees of Inisherin", will receive the award during a gala ceremony on September 27. The event will also feature the premiere of his latest film "Ballad of a Small Player", directed by Academy Award-winner Edward Berger.
New Heights in Artistic Achievement
Festival director Christian Jungen praised Farrell as "one of the most passionate and charismatic character actors in auteur cinema", joining the ranks of celebrated artists whose work has become part of cultural heritage. The award ceremony will contribute to preserving significant moments in contemporary arts and entertainment.
"I'm beyond excited to walk its streets, drink its coffee and move amongst its people. It's both generous and humbling to have my years of making film recognised by such a storied festival," Farrell expressed about his upcoming Zurich debut.
Festival Highlights and Legacy
The 20th edition of ZFF, running from September 25 to October 5, will showcase Farrell's "Ballad of a Small Player", a compelling narrative about a high-stakes gambler in Macau. The actor will also participate in a ZFF Masters session on September 28, sharing insights from his remarkable career journey.
Previous recipients of the Golden Icon Award include luminaries such as Kate Winslet, Jessica Chastain, Hugh Jackman, Cate Blanchett, and Hugh Grant, establishing Farrell among an elite group of performers recognized for their contributions to cinema.
